The Maine Art Education Association (MAEA) is a statewide professional organization whose members are committed to excellence in visual arts education.

Purposes of MAEA include:

  • Providing professional development for its members

  • Promoting art and design education at all levels

  • Encouraging innovation and research in art education

  • Sharing of ideas through Mixed Media newsletter and regular e-blasts

  • Facilitating statewide conferences to promote best practices and a collaborative professional community

  • Recognizing and promoting excellence in art education across divisions and grade levels

  • Recognizing and honoring excellence in advocating for art education

  • Providing exhibition opportunities for student artists

  • Providing merit-based scholarships for student artists and educators

  • Collaborating with other agencies in Maine to further the growth of art education

Our Goals:

  • To encourage best practices in standards-based and learner-centered visual arts classrooms in all Maine schools

  • To foster high-quality teaching in visual arts and provide professional opportunities in curriculum, instruction, and assessment as well as in current issues and artistic practice

  • To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and support collaboration among educators and other arts agencies to ensure quality programs for all learners
