Interested in getting involved in the MAEA? We are always looking for passionate artists and educators to join our team. There are many ways to lend a hand, including some positions that earn a stipend.

Open Committee Positions

Website Editor
Stipend position: $700 per year. The website editor is responsible for keeping the MAEA website current September through June. This includes posting announcements, conference descriptions, registration links, YAM event info, exhibit info, and updates to PD opportunities and forms.

2026 Spring Conference Chair
This is a two-year commitment that begins with a year of shadowing, followed by a year as lead. In this role, you’ll recruit professional artists to teach at our annual Fall Conference held at Haystack and Monson (and possible other locations) focusing on artistic practice and engagement. You’ll also manage communications with both venues to ensure a seamless experience. This conference provides a vital opportunity for our teachers to work as practicing artists, renewing their creativity and strengthening their connection to the arts.

2026 Fall Conference Chair
The Spring Conference Chair leads the planning of our annual pedagogical conference that can be located anywhere within the state by coordinating a venue, scheduling engaging sessions, managing participant registration, welcoming vendors, and organizing the annual awards banquet. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to connect with colleagues, showcase the arts, and make a lasting impact on our community.  

Finance Committee Chair
This person helps the MAEA Treasurer in providing responsible financial oversight and planning, setting agendas for Finance Committee meetings, and collaborating with other committees as our work overlaps.

Advocacy Chair
The Advocacy Chair supports teachers across the state with any needs they may have when advocating for their positions or their programs. They connect teachers to NAEA's white papers and position statements, and keep MAEA's state-specific advocacy documents up to date. The chair also participates in statewide arts education advocacy events, such as Arts Education Advocacy Day at the Maine State House, and any events coordinated by the Maine Arts Commission, or other arts and art education organizations.

Awards + Scholarships Chair
Work with us to honor and recognize the outstanding art educators in the state. Duties include helping review nominations and applications for Art Educator Awards, the Quimby Family Haystack Fellowship, and student and teacher scholarships.

State YAM Chair
Lead and promote Youth Art Month celebrations across Maine each March, coordinating the Portland Museum of Art YAM exhibit with Meghan Quigley-Graham, supporting local events such as Waterville Creates, the MEA Art Show, and CMCA Art Lab activities. Manages communications with members and partners, and collaborates with the Maine Art Educator of the Year to design the state’s YAM Flag for display at the NAEA conference.

Social Media Editor
Stipend position: $350 per year. The SM editor is responsible for keeping the MAEA Facebook and Instagram accounts current from September through June, including posting all conference, event, and PD info as needed as well as post-event photos.

Open Board positions

President Elect
The President Elect prepares to become the next MAEA President by assisting the current president in all duties. In addition, the President Elect serves as the 2nd Delegate to NAEA Delegates Assembly at the National Convention, the 2nd Delegate to NAEA Leadership Conference, and the 2nd Delegate to NAEA Team East (Eastern) Leadership Conference.
